1. Please tell us a little bit about your business/site?

The mission behind the creation of Cozy’s Cuts for Kids and the So Cozy Hair Care line was to take something that is a chore or a little scary for children and make it fun and friendly.
Cozy’s Cuts for Kids is a salon where kids are a priority, not nuisance. Staffed with stylists attuned to the unique needs of children and stocked with the latest, greatest toys, Cozy’s Cuts for Kids is a place where children actually look forward to haircuts like a visit to Serendipity or FAO Schwartz.

In response to client demand, I also created So Cozy Hair Care For Children, the first-ever “designer” line of hair care products created exclusively for kids. With Paraben-free formulas specifically designed to gently and naturally treat children’s hair without sodium laurel or laureth sulfate. Available nationwide, the unique formulas are made with gentle, nourishing ingredients and yummy scents for a completely kid-friendly bath time experience. While New York celebs like Kelly Ripa and Matt Lauer have always counted on Cozy’s cuts for their little ones, now parents everywhere can tame their kids’ hair with So Cozy products.

2. How long have you been in business?

Cozy’s Cuts for Kids was started 15 years ago with one salon on Madison Avenue and has grown to include a store on the Upper West Side and Upper East Side; as well as the So Cozy Hair Care line.
Is your business online, or a physical location or both?
Cozy’s Cuts for Kids has 3 New York City locations as well as an online website - The three salons are located at:
- 1125 Madison Avenue
- 448 Amsterdam Avenue
- 1416 Second Avenue

3. What do you enjoy most about running your business/site?

I recently found an old “goal list” that I had created a few years ago. At the time, the goals were all very large goals, more like dreams than goals. Reading it now, I see that nearly every goal had been achieved- WOW…that was powerful! Having the ability to create a dream is amazing.
I also find it extremely rewarding when I see someone walking down the street holding a Cozy’s Cuts for Kids shopping bag or I meet a little customer that loves my shop and refuses to go anywhere else for a haircut, or I get a call from a store across the country that wants to sell So Cozy in their shop, those little moments mean a lot.

4. Is there a favorite product or service that you offer?

One of my favorite So Cozy products that I use frequently is the Styling Cream in Kooky Kiwi. I have curly hair, that I sometimes where straight, and this product is great for any style I am going for. When my hair is curly I use this product when my hair is still wet to control my curls. When I blow my hair straight, I use the Styling Cream to help with fly-aways and maintain frizz.

5. Anything else you would like to share about your business? Being a working Mom? Etc…

I’ve worked a lot of weekends and long hours in my 15 years of owning my own business. I don’t have time to go for coffee with the other moms or cook dinner for my husband. I can’t say though that I feel that these are sacrifices. It’s just the way my life is. I also get to take long weekends when I can, meet a friend for lunch on occasion & my husband and I still eat dinner, even if it’s not home cooked. If you look at it likes it’s a sacrifice, then it will be.

Testimonial by Jennifer Lesser, Director of Operations, CityMommy NYC

“I was very fortunate to sample some of the wonderful products called So Cozy by Cozy’s Cuts for Kids. I used the Tear Free Shampoo and Conditioner on my 3 yr old twin girls. The shampoo was Very Berry flavored and the conditioner was Sweet Strawberry flavored. My girls’ hair smelled so good and was squeaky clean. I really felt good using these products given that they are hypo-allergenic and Paraben free. So Cozy has many different kinds of products; Shampoo for Swimmers, Boo Shampoo that “scares away lice naturally!” (Great to send kids to sleep-away camp with!), 2 in 1 Conditioning Shampoo, Conditioners, Detanglers, Leave-in conditioners, Sampler packs, makeup, nail polish and more! In their 3 stores in NYC, they offer glamour parties, princess manicures, and amazing haircuts for children given by experienced professional hairstylists. There are even DVD players at each station where kids can watch movies of their choice! I had the privilege of meeting Cozy Wolan Friedman, founder of Cozy’s Cuts for Kids. She gave me a tour of one of her salons and I saw many happy children getting their hair cut and shopping in Cozy’s toy store! Cozy is lovely and warm and truly cares about her business, her products, and most of all, her clients. I highly recommend So Cozy Haircare for Children and Cozy’s Cuts for Kids!”
