We all get that note home from the school nurse: LICE IS HERE! What do Mom’s do? We go into full blown panic mode! We consider shaving our child’s head, home schooling them or just up and moving to another town. But Moms and dads don’t have to panic anymore. Lice prevention is possible. For centuries herbs such as rosemary, citronella and lavender have been used to help repel lice and other insects, so why not add them to shampoo?? Fairy Tales Hair Care for Children has done just that. The Rosemary Repel hair care line uses organic herbs of rosemary, citronella, tea tree and lavender and infused these herbs with vitamins A, D, E jojoba and aloe to create great-smelling products to use every day to gently clean, detangle and help repel head lice.
Fairy Tales Hair Care for Children offers these tips on lice and lice prevention:
Lice do not jump or fly –they crawl so head to head contact is the most likely way to lice spread.
Do not share hats, combs, brushes, towels, helmets, hair ties, headphones, pillows, sleeping bags – watch out for Princess parties – tiara’s look pretty but can harbor lice! If possible, wipe down with a wet cloth or just go bowling.
Young girls are more likely to get lice since they are usually in close contact with one another
Lice cannot survive for more than 24-36 hours off of the human head. Vacuuming is the safest way to remove lice from furniture, floors, and car seats.
A female louse lays 3-5 eggs per day. The eggs hatch in 7-10 days and take another 7-10 to mature into an egg laying louse. We recommend combing for up to 2 weeks.
Do weekly head checks – focus on the “hot spots” back of neck, behind ears, part line. Use a metal comb such as the Fairy Tales Terminator Comb. Anything found more than ½ inch from the scalp is most likely an empty shell and will not hatch.
A nit is light yellow or gray color and is the size of a sesame seed. As it develops it turns brown.
Now, take a deep breath, pour a glass of wine and know that you can help to prevent head lice. Visit Fairy Tales Hair Care for more information.

MyFamily recently had a case of head lice to deal with, we bought some natural pesticide free products called “LiceKiller”. We even bought the environment kit to treat our home so we didn’t get a re-infestation. We purchased the product from Access Nutraceuticals. Here is their website be sure to check it out. “LiceKiller“

Wash everyone’s hair with coconut shampoo/conditioner.
buy lavender in the little drop bottle and put 10 drops in a water spray bottle and spray their everyday before school.
it stinks. Most products will not work–if you have lice just olive oil there hair up to 3 weeks–or coconut oil. Nits come in cycles and you can never be sure when that nit will become a bug. one miss (a hatched nit)you they lay 7-10 more eggs (nits) and it starts all over again. 3 weeks in oil and you can breath……just alittle….I put tea tree/euculipus? drops in all my shampoos. My one child comes home with a note every month—I dont want it….ever.

Tea Tree oil and olive oil are great natural solutions I’ve used in the past and it’s not harsh (even though it stinks) as the “pesticides” from the stores (RID, etc).
